In honour of International Day of Older Persons, the WHO released a report titled “World Report on Ageing and Health” on October 1, 2015. The WHO hopes the report will help encourage “comprehensive public health action on population ageing,” through its framework for actions, which aims to “foster Healthy Ageing built around the new concept of functional ability”. The report includes a small section on vision (and hearing) loss, starting on page 54.
The WHO asked for our support to help build momentum around this report and to work together “towards an age-friendly world which adds health to years”. The link to the report (currently available in English only) is:http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/186463/1/9789240694811_eng.pdf?ua=1 It is also available on our website in the Resources > Useful links section.
The WHO has also prepared a toolkit with advice for NGOs, among others, on how to disseminate knowledge and plan engaging events on this subject. The toolkit (in English) is available at: http://www.who.int/ageing/events/world-report-2015-launch/ageing-health-events-toolkit.pdf?ua=1
